Top 5 Debut Albums

Update: There will be no further posts on blogger. Please go to 23psi.com.

I was happily wallowing in idleness after not updating this blog for a good 2 months when I got tagged by the Anfield Devotee who pens fer fook's sake. That perhaps was the kick in the butt I needed to get going again. In my defence, I'm waiting for the back end programming for my new blog to be completed before I get going again.

Anyways, here's my top 5 debut albums in no particular order. Seeing how much effort this is going to take, I'm not going to bother with getting the album covers. Anyways, it's not the artwork we are interested in.

Fugazi - 13 songs (1989)

You could argue that this isn't an album since it's a release combining the band's first 2 EPs - Margin Walker and 7 Songs. But fuck that technicality. It's got 13 songs. That's an album in my books.

Rage Against the Machine (1992)
I'm with the Anfield Devotee on this. Album artwork with the image of a monk's self immolation proved to be the perfect cover for the material on the inside. Need a soundtrack for people power? This has got to be it. Protest songs that governments should worry about. (N.B. de la Rocha is an open supporter of the Zapatista in Mexico. Who says they are terrorists? It's movement for self-determination.)

Fudge Tunnel - Hate Songs in e minor (1991)
Just how much noise can 3 people in a band make? I thinkFudge Tunnel answers that question perfectly. Aural paint stripper. Also great for drowning out the little voices in your head. Well it worked for me.

Minor Threat - Out of Step (1983)
In the beginning there was Minor Threat. Great seminal HC punk band out of DC which Ian MacKaye fronted before Fugazi. The song Straight Edge inspired the movement of the same name - no smokes, booze and drugs. Proof that you can still fucking rock all the same without it.

Red House Painters - Down Colorful Hill (1992)
Songs for a late night drive. Or when you are just lying there in the dark waiting for sleep to claim you. Anfield Devotee, this is for those late nights when you sit in a darkened room with a beer in one hand and a cigarette in the other.
