Youth 08: Recap

Youth '08 was a 3-day event covering the areas of careers, entrepreneurship, music, IT and such other stuff that are supposedly to be of interest to those from 18 to 30 years of age. So from the word go, I fall outside the demographic of young people that was being targeted. That said, it was in more ways than one, an event sanitised by corporate sponsorship and government endorsement. And it was tough if you were selling anything priced above RM$30 (US$9), as I was.

Corporate-sponsored graffiti. This would eventually morph into something for the brand with 3 stripes. :-(


Here's my table. Behind me happened to be some folks I met before...


I met Helen (flo3tic)[2nd from left] who has her own line of handmade polymer clay jewellery and Chun Woei (urban cr3atures) [3rd from left] at the figure eight event end of last year. I had bought one of Woei's creatures for my wife for X'mas.


Luk (3rd from left) and his team at Futurewave were next to me. Web designers now trying their hand at toy design and retail.

I will be at this event. 3 days of arse-numbing fun. That said, it would be good to see who shows up and buys what.

Independent Day Out: Recap

2000 people. Hot as hell. Slogan t-shirts sold like hot cakes, especially from the guys across my table. The bands? Didn't get to see any. Would I do it again? Yes. Because I get to actually see who buys my stuff, which is of some importance I'm told. The thing is, the people that do never really seem to be ones whom I think would. But I'm glad all the same for the experience.

Since 2008 is only 2 days old, a New Year greeting isn't out of the question yet.
Well, it's good to be back after a 2-week break. I'm gonna ease back into things starting with preparations for this event this coming Saturday. I was on the phone with Joe Kidd a little while ago and the good news is that Carburetor Dung will be part of the line-up.

Some changes are in the pipeline, one being this blog, which will be moved from blogger. This will happen in tandem with the new site/online store. More of that later. Until then, here's to a great 2008!
